Ask Agent*** Vendors comments *** " We moved into Vale Road back in 2004, and honestly, we can’t believe it’s been over twenty years. Time flies when you’re happy.
What drew us here originally was the sheer number of excellent local schools within walking distance. At the time, we were planning for a family, and Vale Road put us right in the heart of some of Mitcham’s most sought-after catchment areas.
That decision paid off, we went on to raise two children here, both of whom have thrived and flown the nest.
This house has been the backdrop to school runs, birthday parties, homework at the kitchen table, and teenagers slamming doors (lovingly, of course).
One of the best things we ever did was extend, not the house itself, but in the garden. We built and completed a self contained studio at the end of the garden, and it has been a game changer. Over the years it’s been a home office, a teenage den, a guest room, and even a quiet yoga space. If you work from home or need a creative escape away from the main house, you will absolutely love it.
We redecorated the whole house just last year, so it’s fresh, bright, and genuinely ready to move-into. After two decades of raising a family, it felt like giving the old girl a new lease of life, and she’s come up beautifully.
The local area has been wonderfully convenient. We’re spoilt for choice with supermarkets – Lidl, Asda and Tesco are all close by, which has been a lifesaver for big family shops and last-minute dinners. When we don’t feel like cooking, there are lots of great eateries in Mitcham town centre, Streatham, Norbury and nearby Tooting. Whether you want a proper curry, a Turkish grill, or just a reliable cafe breakfast, you’ll find it within minutes.
Transport has always worked well for us. The nearest station is Mitcham Eastfields, about a 15-minute walk, which gets you into Central London in well under an 40 minutes. We’ve also got brilliant bus links right on our doorstep: the 45, 60, 255, 152 and 463 buses mean you can get to Croydon, Tooting, Streatham, Purley Way or South Wimbledon without changing. Even without a car, you’re well connected.
But what we will miss most and we mean this from the bottom of our hearts, is the neighbourhood. Vale Road has the kind of neighbours you only read about in nice articles. Friendly, supportive, look-out-for-each-other people. When the children were small, someone was always keeping an eye out. When we’ve been unwell, meals have appeared at the door. We’ve had street BBQs, Christmas drinks, and the kind of wave-and-chat over the garden fence that makes a house feel like a home. You don’t realise how rare that is until you think about leaving it.
So why are we going? We’re moving to be closer to our son, who now lives further away. Family first, always. But we will miss this house, this road, and these neighbours more than words can say. We truly hope the next owners love it as much as we have".
